Kirkland Lake District Chamber of Commerce and Hydro One make it easier for residents to access COVID-19 vaccines
Kirkland Lake, ON, May 17, 2021 – The Kirkland Lake District Chamber of Commerce, with support from Hydro One, is making it easier for residents to access their COVID-19 vaccine through its new Vaccination Transportation program. Funded in part by Hydro One, the Kirkland Lake District Chamber of Commerce has teamed up with CO-OP Taxi to offer a free ride program to transport individuals to-and-from their COVID-19 vaccination appointment.
With the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, eligible residents have already begun booking appointments and receiving a vaccine. The free Vaccination Transportation program will eliminate barriers to accessing vaccines and would not have been possible without the generous donation by Hydro One, and the support of the Timiskaming Health Unit and Blanche River Health, as well as Ontario Chamber of Commerce Vaccination Support Council.
“Hydro One is proud to play a role in building safe communities across the province and in Kirkland Lake by supporting the vaccination effort,” said Lyla Garzouzi, Chief Safety Officer, Hydro One. “We have a responsibility to help communities break down barriers by increasing accessibility to vaccines so we can safeguard lives, put the pandemic behind us, and build a better and brighter future.
The FREE ride program is currently available to those in Kirkland Lake and immediate surrounding areas (King Kirkland, Dobie, Larder Lake, Virginiatown, etc.) who have an appointment booked at one of the following COVID-19 vaccination centers only: Kirkland Lake Heritage North, Larder Lake Municipal Gym, or Virginiatown Community Center.
To book your ride, call CO-OP Taxi at (705) 567-5363 and request a ride through the free ride program. If you require a ride outside of Kirkland Lake, please call the day prior to your appointment to arrange a pickup time.
Please have your COVID-19 vaccination appointment booked before calling CO-OP Taxi. To book your COVID-19 vaccination appointment, please visit https://covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine/.
